Rams, a film by Grímur Hákonarson won the Un Certain Regard award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Icelandic film "Rams" directed by Grímur Hákonarson won the Un Certain Regard award at the Cannes Film Festival last night. This is the first time that an Icelandic full feature length film wins at the much respected French festival.

Hákonarson accepted the award from jury president Isabella Rossellini. "This is a great honour for Grímur and all the good people who worked on the film with us," said producer Grímar Jónsson last night to mbl.is.

Rams, which is about estranged sheep- farmer brothers in Iceland has received rave reviews from magazines such as the Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Screen and The Upcoming.

Variety critic Alissa Simon commends it for its “wonderfully wry, charmingly understated comic moments.” “Rams” is the second creature-themed feature to take the prize in as many years: Hungarian canine thriller “White God” was last year’s winner.
