Hlemmur food hall opens and it's a raving success
Thousands of people visited the new Hlemmur mathöll food hall this weekend. Morgunbaðið's photographer visited the food hall just before they opened their doors on Saturday morning.
The new food hall is located in the former bus terminal building at Hlemmur square, in what seems like the ultimate gentrification move for this formerly rather dismal area of town.
The food hall offers a vegetable and flower stall, restaurants, bars, a bakery and a coffee shop and is open from 8 am to 11 pm although opening times of stalls vary. People waiting for buses are welcome to sit inside the building which offers plenty of benches and tables.
The Hlemmur food hall is practical for locals who now have a bakery, a vegetable and a flower stall on their doorstep and it's also the perfect pit stop for a light lunch or an after-work glass of wine.
Outdoor market stalls will open in the next few weeks.
