Glacier water travel warning in South Iceland

Travellers are advised to exercise caution if travelling in the vicinity of Bláfjallakvísl in South Iceland, due to a glacier river flood originating from the Mýrdálsjökull glacier.

Bláfjallakvísl is a stream running from the northern edge of the South Iceland glacier and travellers are warned to take care when trying the ford the stream.

Glacial river floods occur when meltwater bursts suddenly burst from under a glacier. In extreme cases, such floods may last up to several weeks.
