An Icelandic man has been caught attempting to smuggle large amounts of steroids and other prescription drugs into the country.

Customs officers stopped the man, said to be in his thirties, as he arrived to Iceland on a flight from Berlin and discovered the drugs in his suitcase.

Police were informed of the incident and arrested the individual. The case is currently being investigated, according to the Icelandic Directorate of Customs.

This incident comes hot on the heels of a second drugs-related episode, in which routine checks at the Sundahöfn shipping port in Reykjavik unearthed over 2 kg of cocaine hidden in a backpack.

The Icelandic Police Force and Directorate of Customs jointly run a Drugs Hotline (tel.: 800 5005), which people can call with information on drug-related issues.
