An emergency signal from an Icelandic plane flying over Iceland began at 4.30 this afternoon. The plane was supposed to land in Skagafjörður, North Iceland two hours later.

Several planes in the airspace picked up the signal and the National Coastguard decided to send out a rescue helicopter and a rescue plane. Rescue teams were also put on standby.

Soon after the rescue plane took off, at around 17.15 the pilot of the plane could be contacted and said that everything was "just fine." Rescue missions were then called off.
