Yesterday afternoon saw the official opening of the Christmas open-air ice-rink on Ingólfstorg square by Mayor of Reykjavik Dagur B. Eggertsson.

The impressive structure twookhole week to set up and is illuminated by 40,000 light bulbs. Entrance to the rink is free, but skate hire is ISK 990 (approx. €8), or ISK 790 for those using the Icelandic Aur payment app.

It will be open noon-10pm every day until 2 January, except public holidays. Last year, the rink welcomed 25,000 skaters and some 250,000 passed through the accompanying Christmas market.
