And the snow record goes to... Borgarfjörður!

Forget about Reykjavik, it's Borgarfjörður in West Iceland that holds the record for snow depth at 63 centimetres. In Reykjavik it varied from between 51 cm and 57 cm.  This amount of snowfall in one night is unusual and a number of factors played part, such as little wind and the lightness of the snowflakes.

The snow is already becoming more dense and was measured in Reykjavik at 47 cm this morning.

The next few days are clear and very cold so the snow is here to stay with rather difficult driving conditions in the city, especially on smaller residential streets where many cars are still getting stuck.
