Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir has been appointed to remain as Prime Minister for the time being until her predecessor is found. Her request for her release has, however, been accepted by President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson.

Katrín Jakobsdóttir said earlier today she could not say who will take over as Prime Minister. When asked whether the political cooperation will continue and who will take over her office, she said:

“They’re sitting around and talking. I expect that we’ll hear some conclusions from that. I’m probably not the right person to answer that.”

Jakobsdóttir then went to the President’s meeting and did not answer other questions from the media.

Jakobsdóttir is now asking for her and her ministry to be released, as she is running for President of Iceland. She has been Prime Minister since 2017, for nearly seven years. She has already resigned as chair of the Left-Greens.

After the meeting, the President will address the media.
