Attempting to break a world record

mbl.is/Þorgeir

Today, a Japanese ski jumper attempts to break the world record in Hlíðarfjall in Akureyri in collaboration with the beverage manufacturer Red Bull.

The world record for a ski jump is 253.3 meters, but he will attempt to jump more than 300 meters. According to mbl.is, the man will jump a few times today, but mbl.is’ photographer captured pictures of one of his attempts.

Japanese ski jumper Ryōyū Kobayashi is the only Japanese man with a contract with Red Bull to take a ski jump, so it’s not unlikely that he’s the one attempting this feat. He’s a multi-awarded ski jumper and a world champion.

A lot of secrecy about the proceedings

There is great secrecy about all this and it is difficult to get information about the situation. In the coming days, it will be announced whether the world record has been broken, mbl.is reports.

Red Bull is known for marketing their energy drink by getting famous sports people to show off their skills in extreme sports and outdoors with various stunts.
