A total of 11 people will be running for the office of the President of Iceland. This was stated in the ruling of the National Electoral Commission.

Before the weekend, 13 candidates submitted their candidacy documents to the National Electoral Commission, which announced at a press conference this morning that the candidacies of Kári Vil­mund­sson­ Han­sen and Viktor­ Trausta­son­ were not valid.

  • Katrín Jak­obs­dótt­ir
  • Stein­unn Ólína Þor­steins­dótt­ir

After reviewing the presidential candidates’ list of recommendations over the weekend, four candidates were given until yesterday to add to their signatures, namely Ástþór Magnússon, Helga Þórisdóttir, Eiríkur Ingi Jóhannsson and Arnar Þór Jónsson, and all of them were able to gather a sufficient number of signatures.
