Former Prime Minister of Iceland Davíð Oddsson has just announced his intention to stand in this year’s presidential election.

Speaking on Icelandic radio this morning, Oddsson revealed that this was very much a snap decision and that he began considering running for President just a few days ago.

Oddsson is Iceland’s longest-serving Prime Minister to date (1991-2004) and is currently editor of Icelandic daily Morgunblaðið.
