The Islandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon takes place tomorrow, August 18, for the 35th time, starting at 8:40 am in Lækjargata. Participants can choose between running a marathon and a half marathon, in addition to either a 3-km or a 600-m fun run. All races start in Lækjargata, by Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík junior college. You can view the program here and maps here

The Reykjavík Marathon draws large crowds every year, and many of the runners run in support of charities.

The weather forecast for tomorrow is excellent, calling for sunny skies in the morning, during the marathon, and cloudy and partly cloudy skies in the afternoon and evening, when Culture Night takes place, with calm winds and a high of 13°C (55°F).

Please see an article on Culture Night here.

Eating right before a marathon is essential. Torey Armul, R.D., spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, has suggestions for meals the day before a marathon, which you can view here.
