Young man in critical condition after falling from famous Reykjavik statue

 A young man received serious head injuries on Saturday morning after falling from the statue of Viking explorer Leifur Eiríksson next to Hallgrímskirkja church in central Reykjavik. 

According to information from the Reykjavik Metropolitan Police the accident occurred at around 4 am on Friday morning. The young man had climbed up the statue but fell from it on his back. He was unconscious when police arrived at the scene. 

He underwent surgery at the National University Hospital.
