The Reykjavik Fire Department finds it unusual how quickly yesterday's fire spread. The property in Miðtún 4 in Garðabær, a municipality of Reykjavik is completely destroyed, reports today's Morgunblaðið.

"We don't know why the fire spread so quickly. It's surprising, and unusual," said chief of the Reykjavik Fire Department, Jón Viðar Matthíasson. The fire was reported at 8 am yesterday and fire fighters spent hours trying to battle the flames. Matthíasson says it's one of the largest and most difficult fires he has encountered. "We are very sorry that we couldn't contain the fire and that so much damage was done, and to memories that cannot be replaced."

Many people lost their personal valuables in the fire because part of the building belongs to Geymslur.is which is a company where people rent storage space. "

When the fire department have completed putting out all sparks and teardown of the building the Reykjavik Metropolitan Police will begin their investigation on what caused the fire. A few of the storage spaces escaped the fire.

Over 100 fire fighters as well as police fought the fire yesterday and police brought a drone with an infrared camera.
