Reykjavík police officer injured

A female police officer was transported by ambulance to Landspítali National University Hospital just before noon, after being attacked by a man on the corner of Grensásvegur and Miklabraut roads in Reykjavík, mbl.is reports.

The Reykjavík Metropolitan Police has since issued the following statement:

“Shortly before noon, a man was reported to be under the influence on Grensásvegur road. When police arrived on the scene, the man responded angrily to their interference by attacking the police officers. The fight resulted in the man and the police officers falling to the ground, and one of the officers hitting the head hard on the asphalt and experiencing dizziness. The officer was subsequently transported to Urgent Care for treatment and is being examined.

The man was arrested and placed in police custody.”

Mbl.is reports that the man had walked from car to car before police arrived. Numerous people witnessed the attack. It is not known how serious the officer’s injuries are.
