Remains of mountaineers dead in Nepal thirty years ago to be brought to Iceland

The relatives of the two mountaineers who disappeared in Pumori thirty years ago and whose remains were found recently have accepted an offer by mountaineer Leifur Örn Svavarson to try to fetch the bodies and bring them home to Iceland.

Remains of two Icelandic mountaineers discovered in Nepal

Svavarsson is on his way to Nepal where he will look at the possibilities of transporting the remains of Kristinn Rúnarsson and Þorsteinn Guðjónsson down from mount Pumori and to Katmandhu. From there, their relatives will make neccessary arrangements to transport them to Iceland. 

Svavarsson and his crew will be going to the place where the remains were found, some 5.500 metres high and according to an announcement from the relatives of the deceased, the location is considered safe to mount. 

The relatives would also like to thank the amount of warm wishes they have received following the discovery of the bodies.
