Special areas for lighting fireworks this year in Reykjavik to prevent accidents

This year there will be special areas for the shooting of fireworks in Skólavörðuholt by Hallgrímskirkja church, Klambratún park and Landakot church on New Year's Eve. This is due to the great number of people who light fireworks in these areas on New Year's Eve to increase safety and reduce accidents. 

Special podiums for ligthing the fireworks will be installed and are sponsored by the Sjóvá insurance company. Security guards will be in the area between 10 pm and 1 am. 

The City of Reykjavik have also decided to close off car traffic in Skólavörðuholt to further increase safety.
