Yellow Weather Alert for South Iceland

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a yellow weather alert for South and Southeast Iceland.

For the southernmost part of South Iceland, the alert is in effect until 6 pm. Easterly and northeasterly gales of 15-20 m/sec are expected, with wind gusts of 25-30 m/sec, for example on the road over Reynisfjall and near Eyjafjöll mountains. Hazardous conditions for vehicles susceptible to wind, such as campers and trailers. Calmer winds elsewhere in the region.

For Southeast Iceland, the alert is effective until 1 am tomorrow morning. Northeasterly and easterly gales of 15-20 m/sec are expected to the south and west of Öræfajökull glacier, with wind gusts of about 30 m/sec. Hazardous conditions for vehicles susceptible to wind, such as campers and trailers.  Calmer winds elsewhere in the region.
