At a press conference this afternoon, Icelandic health authorities revealed that of the 927 people tested at Keflavík International Airport yesterday, two tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Both were passengers arriving from Copenhagen.

One of them is a foreign national. A blood test revealed that he has antibodies to the novel coronavirus and is, thus, not contageous and does not require isolation. The other individual who tested positive is an Icelander, residing abroad. This individual is now in isolation.

There are currently seven active cases of COVID-19 in Iceland.

Of the 16 police officers who had to be quarantined after the arrest of two infected foreign national last weekend, one tested positive for the virus this morning and is currently in isolation. Three foreign nationals who arrived in Iceland last week and who are believed to have been in contact with the arrested individuals are still being searched for by police.

Health officials stressed that while people await the results of their coronavirus test, they must behave as if they were in quarantine and should keep to themselves.

The importance of the transmission tracing app Rakning C-19 was emphasized and the fact that the information it collects is only stored on one’s smart phone, not in a cloud.

Health officials urged residents to continue their basic disease prevention efforts and warned against letting down their guard.
