COVID-19 restrictions will be eased in Iceland as of Tuesday, June 15, mbl.is reports. The decision to ease restrictions was made by Minister of Health Svandís Svavarsdóttir, based on the recommendations of Chief Epidemiologist Þórólfur Guðnason.

The maximum number of people allowed to gather will be 300 instead of 150.

The social distancing rule will change from two meters to one.

At events where guests are seated, the use of masks will remain mandatory, and a maximum of 300 people will be allowed in each area. This applies to theaters, athletic events, religious ceremonies, conferences, and more.

The operating hours of restaurants will be extended by an hour. They will be allowed to stay open until midnight. All guests must have left the premises by 1 am.

The new rules will remain in effect through Tuesday, June 29.

According to covid.is, a total of 128,645 Icelanders have already been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Another 86,326 have received the first of two doses of vaccine.

The percentage of men and women aged 16 and older who have received at least one dose of vaccine is 57 and 71, respectively.

More than 90 percent of Icelanders aged 50 and older have received at least one dose of vaccine and nearly 50 percent of those less than 50 years old.

According to the chief epidemiologist’s memo, the status of the pandemic in Iceland is good. Since May 25, 42 individuals have been diagnosed with COVID-19, 25 of whom were in quarantine when diagnosed.
