A bus destroyed in a fire at Þingvellir
There was a fire in a tour bus from Viking Bus on Gjábakkavegur east of Lake Þingvallavatn this week.
Pétur Pétur Pétursson, fire chief at the Árnesýsla Fire Department, told mbl.is that the bus was out on the road and presumably was moving. He says it is difficult to determine the source of the fire at this stage.
“We don’t know that there were any accidents and everyone got off the bus by themselves,” Pétursson told mbl.is.

Shrubs on fire
The bus is completely destroyed.
Pétursson then says that a fire started in the surrounding shrubs. “It was extinguished and the fire did not spread.”
Firefighters from Árnesýsla and Selfoss fire departments went to the scene with two pump trucks and a tanker, Pétursson said. “Also we sent a bus to the scene to transport passengers if necessary to go away.”
