The design of the sea baths took account of nature and history, but the service room is built on an old foundation from the war years, one of many hidden in the Hvammsvík area. The project was developed with local designers and artists. These include Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir, Shoplifter, who specially designed an art piece for the place, Sonja Bent at Nordica Angan, who processed scents and soaps from the surroundings of Hvammsvík and Bjarni Viðar Sigurðsson, who worked on ceramics for the tableware of restaurant Storm Bistro, using the sand of Hvammsvíkurfjördur’s fence in the glazing.

“I would like to thank you for the wonderful welcome of this first year of our operation, but it’s especially gratifying to see how many Icelanders and countrymen have come home to Hvammsvík. It’s nice to welcome sea swimmers, many of whom have become regular customers, but also we get a lot of hikers coming to us after hikes in our local environment. We are very proud to have received foreign recognition, for example, the sea bathers were selected by Time Out as their first choice for Best Entertainment in 2023. We look forward to starting the next year of operations with a great team of employees,” says Skúli Mogensen, founder of Hvammsvík Sea Baths.
