Reykjavik City Elections: Majority holds, Socialist and Progressive parties gain seats

The municipal elections take place this Saturday in Reykjavik. A new poll shows that the majority will hold with a minimum number of votes. The new Socialist Party and the Progressive Party will each gain a seat.

According to the survey eight parties will have seats in the City Council. The Alliance Party would have 31 % of votes and eight seats, the Independence Party would have 26.3 % of votes or 7 seats, Pirates would have 8% and 2 seats, the Left Green Alliance would have 7.6 % of votes and 2 seats.

The Middle Party would have 6.5 percent of votes and one seat, the Reform Party 4.9 percent of votes with one seat, the Socialist Party 3.9 % of votes and one seat and finally the Progressive Party with 3.6 % and one seat.

There are however 16 candidates of which eight will not gain a seat. Among them are the People's Party, the Women's Party, the Men's Party, the Icelandic Nationalist Party and the Freedom Party.

The elections take place on Saturday May 26th.
