The recording of a bar conversation between MP's last week made public yesterday has caused outrage in Iceland. A protest has been organised at Austurvöllur parliament square tomorrow to demand the resignation of the MP's involved. Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir is saddened by events which will be discussed at the Speaker's Committee in Parliament.

The protest is a sharp contrast to other events tomorrow, December 1st is the centenary of Icelandic independence and sovereignty. In 2018, Iceland celebrates 100 years as a free and sovereign state with celebrations commencing outside the house of parliament at 1.30 pm and the Alþingi opened to the general public until 6 pm.

The protest begins at 2:10 tomorrow.  This is the second public protest demanding the resignation of Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson who is now an MP and leader of the Center Party. In 2016, massive public protests occurred after the Panama Papers revealed his wife owned an offshore company with a significant investment in the country's collapsed bank.
