9FEB98 - Iceland's sole Nobel laureate, author and playwright Halldor Laxness died February 8 at the age of 95 at a nursing home outside Reykjavik, where he had been suffering from Alzheimer's Disease for up to 10 years. Laxness won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1955, the only Icelander ever to win a Nobel.
